Piano, Cello, Recorder, Music Theory, GCSE/ALEVEL Music Tuition, Introduction to Music Group Lessons
I grew up in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. I started playing both the Cello and the piano at the age of 7. After progressing to Grade 8 on both instruments and performing in various orchestras, ensembles and string quartets during my school years, I decided that music was definitely the path I wanted to follow. After achieving an A in A Level music, I left Northern Ireland to study at the University of Glasgow where I graduated in 2002 with an MA Hons degree in Music and Celtic Civilisation achieving a 2:1. After graduating, I stayed in Glasgow and established myself as a private instrumental tutor, creating a successful business with a waiting list year on year and a very high exam pass rate for students. I was also the principal cellist and a founding member of the Caledonian String quartet between the years of 2008 to 2015. I have recently moved to Bristol from Scotland and have established the Southville School of Music. As an established teacher with 16 years experience I can offer a high standard of lessons and a high exam success rate for those wishing to take exams. I also teach people who would like to play for fun and to learn the skill of picking up a piece of music and playing it in addition to them interpreting music aurally and being able to hear music and play it effectively without sheet music. I have a strong focus in lessons on training and enhancing aural ability balanced with developing effective sight reading skills as both of these aspects are important to overall musicality. I keep lessons fun and enjoyable for all ages whilst constantly improving and developing. It is really important for people to enjoy their music lesson to help their concentration, encourage them to practice and help them progress.
